The Gjelina Group Mission is to consistently create a thoughtfully nuanced experience throughout a variety of hospitality offerings.

Starting in 2016, all Gjelina Group restaurants initiated automatic inclusion of a Mandatory Service Charge for patrons. The MSC component of your earnings forms part of your regular rate of pay, and is used in calculating sick and overtime pay.

We believe all hourly employees are integral parts of the chain of service and contribute to each guest’s experience. By adding a MSC to all checks and distributing it amongst all employees, we are able to reach those team members that California State Law has historically ignored when it comes to tip pooling. We’re guided by an unequivocal respect of our team’s personal boundaries, understanding that a guest’s subjective experience should not be a barrier to a regular income. This, combined with the historical roots of tipping, have lead us to define the pay system that we have today.

Director - The Gjelina Foundation

About the Foundation and Gjelina Group:

The Gjelina Foundation is a 501c3 registered nonprofit dedicated to uplift communities through the support of programs committed to food, farming, arts, social justice and environmental sustainability.

One of the pillars of the Foundation focuses on providing school students in Venice with high-quality hands-on learning opportunities centered around these core tenants – with the aim to help keep kids in school, keep them engaged, and instill life lessons and skills. Other initiatives include collaborations with other non-profits, work across the DEI LGTBQIA+ communities, and international work within Mexico and South Africa.

Gjelina Group started on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in 2008, with Gjelina restaurant, serving locally-sourced, produce-forward food and becoming a staple in the Venice community. Other food operations of the company include GTA, Gjusta, Gjusta Grocers and Valle; Gjusta Goods and GJ Flower Shop within the retail sector; and art studios, dark room and apartments within the art residency program. All of which support the Foundations efforts.

Job Summary:

The Foundation Director is a senior level position within the Gjelina Group who will work under the direction of, and reporting to, the Chief Executive Officer.  This position requires a dynamic, mission-driven leader.

The Director will develop and oversee the implementation of local, national, and international short-range and long-range programs; strategic planning in collaboration with the board and other non-profits; and relationship building with local communities in proximity to our locations.

The Director is responsible for the Foundation Board development and engagement and is also responsible for all aspects of fundraising and grant writing.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in/on a variety of meetings, committees, taskforces and/or other related groups to communicate information regarding the Foundation and its initiatives.
  • Develops and monitors the Foundation’s budget and financial plans; authorizes and approves Foundation expenditures and works with Foundation Board and Gjelina Group’s Controller on both individual donor and foundation fundraising.
  • Oversees the continued development and improvement of all phases of the programs. Elements of the program include written guidelines, goals and objectives and explanatory details for each area
  • Develops and oversees the Foundation’s outreach plan that effectively recruits students, volunteers, partner agencies, guest chefs, internship sites and employers.
  • Oversees the Foundation’s scholarship programs and ensures that these further the Foundation mission and strategic goals.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum five years professional level grant writing and fundraising experience, preferably Director level
  • Experience with Advisory Board development and management
  • Non-profit program management experience
  • Passion for helping educate and empowering high school students through local culinary programs
  • Spanish fluency a plus

Physical Demands/Working Environment

Retail Associate - Part-Time

Gjusta Goods is seeking an experienced Retail Associate. Gjusta Goods is the lifestyle extension of Gjelina Restaurant Group in Venice Beach. Gjusta Goods was introduced as an opportunity to share our unique goods and wares with the local community in Venice Beach, as well as extend our community across the globe. Our main retail story is told through the line of ceramics and linens we design in-house and manufacture with local artisans. These lines were developed for daily use in our restaurants, and have expanded organically to full lines for the home.

Responsibilities & Requirements
• Ability to establish relationships with customers and tell the story behind the items we make and sell
• Organize, clean, and maintain the workspace and related storage areas
• Must be a self motivated individual who will take the lead on side work to ensure the store feels fresh and inviting
• Ability to learn shipping procedures and fulfill shipping orders
• General interest in retail and restaurants
• Strong communication skills – in person, on the phone, and via email
• Organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficient in the following programs: Google Docs, Gmail, Shopify experience is a plus
• Responsible for maintaining knowledge of all items in store (care instructions, uses, etc)
• Responsible for opening and closing out register and writing nightly reports
• Responsible for receiving, unpacking, and logging deliveries

Physical Demands/Working Environment:
• Able work seated, walking or standing for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
