The Gjelina Group Mission is to consistently create a thoughtfully nuanced experience throughout a variety of hospitality offerings.

Starting in 2016, all Gjelina Group restaurants initiated automatic inclusion of a Mandatory Service Charge for patrons. The MSC component of your earnings forms part of your regular rate of pay, and is used in calculating sick and overtime pay.

We believe all hourly employees are integral parts of the chain of service and contribute to each guest’s experience. By adding a MSC to all checks and distributing it amongst all employees, we are able to reach those team members that California State Law has historically ignored when it comes to tip pooling. We’re guided by an unequivocal respect of our team’s personal boundaries, understanding that a guest’s subjective experience should not be a barrier to a regular income. This, combined with the historical roots of tipping, have lead us to define the pay system that we have today.

About the Foundation and Gjelina Group:

The Gjelina Foundation is a 501c3 registered nonprofit dedicated to uplift communities through the support of programs committed to food, farming, arts, social justice and environmental sustainability.

One of the pillars of the Foundation focuses on providing school students in Venice with high-quality hands-on learning opportunities centered around these core tenants – with the aim to help keep kids in school, keep them engaged, and instill life lessons and skills. Other initiatives include collaborations with other non-profits, work across the DEI LGTBQIA+ communities, and international work within Mexico and South Africa.

Gjelina Group started on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in 2008, with Gjelina restaurant, serving locally-sourced, produce-forward food and becoming a staple in the Venice community. Other food operations of the company include GTA, Gjusta, Gjusta Grocers and Valle; Gjusta Goods and GJ Flower Shop within the retail sector; and art studios, dark room and apartments within the art residency program. All of which support the Foundations efforts.

Job Summary:

The Foundation Director is a senior level position within the Gjelina Group who will work under the direction of, and reporting to, the Chief Executive Officer.  This position requires a dynamic, mission-driven leader.

The Director will develop and oversee the implementation of local, national, and international short-range and long-range programs; strategic planning in collaboration with the board and other non-profits; and relationship building with local communities in proximity to our locations.

The Director is responsible for the Foundation Board development and engagement and is also responsible for all aspects of fundraising and grant writing.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in/on a variety of meetings, committees, taskforces and/or other related groups to communicate information regarding the Foundation and its initiatives.
  • Develops and monitors the Foundation’s budget and financial plans; authorizes and approves Foundation expenditures and works with Foundation Board and Gjelina Group’s Controller on both individual donor and foundation fundraising.
  • Oversees the continued development and improvement of all phases of the programs. Elements of the program include written guidelines, goals and objectives and explanatory details for each area
  • Develops and oversees the Foundation’s outreach plan that effectively recruits students, volunteers, partner agencies, guest chefs, internship sites and employers.
  • Oversees the Foundation’s scholarship programs and ensures that these further the Foundation mission and strategic goals.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum five years professional level grant writing and fundraising experience, preferably Director level
  • Experience with Advisory Board development and management
  • Non-profit program management experience
  • Passion for helping educate and empowering high school students through local culinary programs
  • Spanish fluency a plus

Physical Demands/Working Environment

  • Fluidez en español, sería una ventaja

FFE and Development Coordinator / Coordinador/a de FFE y Desarrollo

Job Summary:

The FFE and Development coordinator will be available to work a 40 work week. Schedule conflicts will be taken into consideration, however as the hospitality industry encompasses 7 days a week, throughout multiple time periods, schedule flexibility is required. Travel may be needed.

You will be responsible for managing information and projects that cover multiple topics. Self-motivated, great time manager, and very organized are key skills.

Communication with CEO initially will be daily to clarify and support goals, however once you have a clear understanding of what is expected of you, you will be responsible driving your work.

You will be responsible for the ordering, storing and maintenance of all FFE for existing and new properties. Keeping detailed records of needs, maintenance, ordering, storage, timelines, and costs. You will also be responsible for the development of the in-house China, Glass, and Silverware program.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate renovations of existing operations throughout all stages.
  • Proactively manage all logistics of renovation or installation projects to ensure that vendors, shipments, contractors, and installations meet the target deadline.
  • Manage the contractors/ installers schedules with the management at each property ensuring minimal disturbance to guest.
  • Build vendor/ client relationships and negotiate quotes and lead times, especially for FFE and CGS.
  • Place and review all FFE orders after signing off from CEO.
  • Follow up on vendor invoices and payments with accounting team.
  • Assist in building an FFE program for future and current projects.
  • Identify a plan for upkeep of all FFE, including twice weekly walkthroughs of all the properties for any rips, tears, replacements, and repairs.
  • Clear process on image, dimensions, drawings and material prior to receiving costs and timelines.
  • Coordinate al FFE prototype development, negotiate pricing and timelines.
  • Coordinate all CGS prototype development, negotiate pricing and timelines.
  • Place orders and implement care routines, and par levels in properties.

Gjusta Goods was introduced as an opportunity to share our unique goods and wares with the local community in Venice Beach, as well as extend our community across the globe. Our main retail story is told through the line of ceramics and linens we design in-house and manufacture with local artisans. These lines were developed for daily use in our restaurants, and have expanded organically to full lines for the home.

Responsibilities & Requirements
• Ability to establish relationships with customers and tell the story behind the items we make and sell
• Organize, clean, and maintain the workspace and related storage areas
• Must be a self motivated individual who will take the lead on side work to ensure the store feels fresh and inviting

Sunset Retail Manager

Sunset Retail’s Manager is responsible for executing the Gjelina Group Partners’ vision for Gjusta Goods and Gjusta Flower Shop. The Sunset Retail Manager must communicate with vendors, keep store inventory stocked, and maintain a high level of knowledge about all items in store– including history, care instructions, and uses. You will build relationships with clientele, both in store and online. You will be responsible for keeping clear lines of communication with the accounting team for invoicing and inventory purposes.

You will manage Gjusta Goods’ and Gjusta Flower Shop’s staff including creating and distributing weekly schedules, training new employees, keeping current staff up-to-date on new items, hiring seasonal employees, delegating projects, and processing payroll. The Sunset Retail Manager will occasionally be involved in the procurement, sampling, and co-ordination of Gjelina Group FFE and CGS, especially when specifying new service items to be used in restaurants and sold in store. You should be well versed in production management and specifying custom made items with artists and vendors. This may include organizing the creation process from ideation to delivery and managing the timelines of each stage.

You will oversee all offsite and in-house floral production for retail, wholesale, and events. You are responsible for budgeting, costing, and overall growth both in person and online. You will work with the Events team to manage outreach to event companies, event planners, potential wholesale and residential install clients (florals, ceramic, linen, and furniture rentals).

Communication with the CEO initially will be weekly to clarify and support goals, however, once you have a clear understanding of what is expected of you, you will be responsible for driving your own work.

Job Responsibilities:

Gjusta Flower Shop is hiring a full-time Director responsible for managing the Gjusta Flower Shop team, directing day-to-day operations, booking + managing events and accounts, working closely with our Events and Catering department + Gjusta Good’s team and vendors.

Responsibilities include:
